Job summary

EY is seeking a Senior AI/Applied ML Engineer to build autonomous, auditable agents that operate within deterministic workflows while remaining steerable and safe. You’ll influence execution models, tool interfaces, and context management across long-running enterprise integrations.

You will work in Challenger Core, collaborating with product, platform, and security teams to deliver scalable agent solutions that balance quality, latency, and user control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• 7–9 years of software or applied ML engineering experience with production systems.
• Hands-on shipping of large-language-model apps, agents, or complex model-driven workflows.
• Strong production programming skills in Python, TypeScript, or equivalent.
• Experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation.
• Knowledge of asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and failure recovery.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model for deterministic or autonomous workflows.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts and safe error handling.
• Engineer agent behavior including planning, routing, delegation, and handoffs.
• Create durable context combining instructions, user state, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories using tests that measure verified task success and recovery.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpointing, and safe retries.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end tracing and replay for learning.
• Protect user control with intervention points for inspection and safe resumption.
• Build shared capability by collaborating across teams and publishing reusable patterns.
