Job summary

EY is hiring for a senior AI/Applied AI engineer to build long-running agents and production-grade workflows. You will shape deterministic and autonomous agent architectures, develop dependable tools, and ensure safe, auditable behavior across complex enterprise systems.

The role sits in Challenger, EY’s program to reinvent services with AI, offering hybrid work and significant travel. Strong background in software or ML engineering is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study.
• 9-12+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong record in software or applied machine-learning engineering with ownership of production systems.
• Hands-on experience shipping large-language-model applications, agents, or complex model-driven workflows.
• Proficient in Python, TypeScript, or other production languages.
• Experience with asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Ability to travel up to 50% and work in a hybrid office setting.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and design agent architectures with deterministic steps or single-agent loops as appropriate.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts, validated outcomes, and secure errors for recovery.
• Engineer agent behavior: planning, routing, delegation, retry, and handoffs across workflows.
• Create durable context by combining instructions, user state, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, budgets, and approvals.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests on verified task success and tool use.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpointing, and safe retries.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and production insights.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points for inspection and resume.
• Build shared capability by partnering across teams and publishing reusable agent patterns.
