EY is seeking a senior AI/ML engineer to build deterministic, steerable agent workflows across enterprise systems. The role blends applied AI, distributed systems, and product engineering to manage long-running behaviors and complex integrations.

Challenger Core teams develop reusable tools, guardrails and patterns, ensuring safe operation and measurable business value. This senior role includes travel and hybrid office collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• 7-9 years of software or applied ML engineering experience with live systems.
• Hands-on experience shipping large-language-model apps, agents, or complex workflows.
• Strong production skills in Python, TypeScript, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and architecture for deterministic vs. autonomous workflows.
• Build dependable tools and interfaces with clear contracts and error handling.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, stopping, and retry.
• Create durable context combining instructions, user state, memory and feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests for verified task success and recovery.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state and graceful rollback.
• Make behavior observable with traces and replay for failure diagnosis.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points and safe resumption.
• Build shared capability by partnering across teams and publishing reusable patterns.
