Job summary

EY is seeking a senior AI/ML-enabled systems engineer to build and operate long-running agent workflows. You will design deterministic and coordinated agent architectures, develop dependable tools, and ensure secure, observable, and controllable autonomous behavior across enterprise-scale integrations.

The role sits within Challenger, EY’s program for next-generation services, combining applied AI, distributed systems, and product engineering.

Qualifications

• Strong software or applied machine-learning engineering background with ownership of production systems and live behavior.
• Hands-on evidence of shipping large-language-model applications, agents, or complex model-driven workflows used for real work.
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or other languages used for production services and integrations.
• Experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation of variable behavior.
• Experience with asynchronous work, state, concurrency, idempotency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Experience implementing access boundaries and scoped authority for applications or automated workloads.
• Evidence of improving live systems through traces, metrics, logs, incident analysis, and durable remediation.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% and work in a hybrid capacity

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and design agent architectures with deterministic steps or multi-agent coordination when justified.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts, validated outcomes, and bounded authorization.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, stopping, retry, and handoff within workflows.
• Create durable context by combining instructions, user state, retrieval, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, budgets, and emergency containment.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests that verify task success, tool use, recovery, and human takeover.
• Operate long-running execution using durable state, checkpointing, and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and replay for failure analysis.
• Protect user control with explicit intervention points for inspection and redirection.
• Build shared capability by collaborating across product, platform, knowledge, security, and evaluation teams
