Job summary

EY is seeking an experienced AI/ML engineer to build production-grade agents that operate across enterprise workflows. You will design deterministic and autonomous execution loops, integrate with tools and model APIs, and balance safety with velocity in complex real-world environments.

Based in a hybrid US role, you will join Challenger, EY’s program for new services, contributing to durable, observable agent behavior and governance while traveling up to 50% as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• 7-9 years of software or applied ML engineering with ownership of production systems.
• Hands-on evidence shipping large-language-model applications or complex model-driven workflows.
• Strong capability in Python, TypeScript, or similar production languages.
• Experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation of variable behavior.
• Distributed execution with asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Experience implementing access boundaries and scoped authority for apps or workloads.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% and work in a hybrid office setting.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model for agent architectures.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts and validated outcomes.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, and handoffs.
• Create durable context combining instructions, user state, retrieval, and memory.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests for verified outcomes.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state and safe retries.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and replay.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points.
• Build shared capability by partnering across teams and publishing patterns.
