Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Program Director for the West Side YMCA in New York, NY. This full-time role leads the Afterschool program, shaping youth development, mental wellness, and family engagement within the LEAP framework.

You will supervise staff, design engaging programs, coordinate with schools, manage budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and build partnerships with community partners and funders to sustain high-quality services.

Qualifications

• Requires 2+ years’ direct experience with children under 13 and 1+ year supervisory experience.
• CPR or First Aid certification preferred; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Direct programs serving the designated grade level band (K-5 or 6-8) and align with DYCD requirements.
• Integrate programs into the community and meet diverse needs.
• Recruit and retain participants; aim for high attendance and sustained engagement.
• Use quantitative measures and external evaluations to demonstrate program effectiveness.
• Analyze data to identify trends and improve program quality.
• Build connections with local partners and funders to sustain programs.
• Lead staff in mental wellness support and referrals.
• Coordinate crisis plans with school social workers and health providers.
• Oversee SEL curriculum selection (COMPASS or SONYC) and ensure clear competencies.
• Manage budget and procurement; track expenses.
• Recruit and retain diverse staff; ensure COMPASS delivery.
• Maintain relations with host schools and administrators.
• Coordinate STEAM and Literacy schedules with host schools.
• Maintain program documentation per OCFS, DOH, DYCD, and YMCA requirements.

Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or related field

New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential
