Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York seeks a Program Director for Afterschool, reporting to the Youth & Family Director. Lead a diverse staff to design and implement engaging afterschool programs that support youth development and family engagement.

You will oversee budgets, compliance, staff supervision, and collaboration with host schools and community partners to deliver high-quality COMPASS/SONYC aligned activities, with a focus on safety, inclusion, and social-emotional wellness.

Qualifications

• Must have one of the listed educational credentials for program administration.
• Experience supervising staff in a childcare or youth program.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop, monitor, and improve program quality and outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Direct programs serving designated age bands, ensuring activities meet DYCD requirements.
• Integrate programs into the host community to serve diverse needs.
• Develop recruitment and retention strategies to boost attendance and engagement.
• Use data and external evaluations to demonstrate program effectiveness.
• Collaborate with partners and funders to enhance services and resources.
• Lead staff in implementing mental wellness supports for participants and families.
• Coordinate crisis planning with school social workers and health providers.
• Oversee selection of SEL curriculum (COMPASS or SONYC) and ensure alignment with goals.
• Manage budgets, procure supplies, and track expenses with the provided tools.
• Build and maintain relationships with school partners and communities.
