Job summary

LACOE Expanded is seeking a Program Leader for the Los Angeles area to support after-school enrichment in a school setting. The role focuses on leadership, activity planning and safe supervision for students in a dynamic, community-centered program.

Core hours are 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM; occasional evenings and weekend work may be required. Qualifications include a HS diploma or GED with additional education or testing, and the ability to collaborate with school staff and families.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students in grades K-12 in recreational, educational and/or community youth outreach setting.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with School District staff, parents and community leaders.
• Familiarity with quality criteria for after school programs.
• Ability to communicate effectively and respond to critical incidents and emergencies.
• Must be 18 years of age and have HS diploma or GED and/or higher education.
• Must clear Tuberculosis screening and DOJ/FBI Live Scan prior to hire.
• Physical ability to lead and participate in activities.
• Fluency in a language other than English is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist in planning and implementing the daily after-school program under the supervision of a Program Coordinator.
• Maintain a 20:1 student ratio using recruitment and retention strategies.
• Develop positive relationships with youth, guardians and school staff.
• Track attendance and report program progress according to quality improvement processes.
• Prepare supplies and create a creative enriching environment for activities.
• Use age-appropriate methods to facilitate learning experiences.
• Actively supervise students to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
• Maintain professional communications with all program stakeholders.
• Attend all required staff meetings and professional development sessions.
• Supervise field trips and events as needed.
• Distribute and track supper/snack per school protocols.
• Maintain and care for program space and equipment; report hazards.
• Ensure safety standards are understood and followed.
• Be available for evenings and weekends; travel to off-site trainings as needed.
• Collaborate as part of a team to run program-wide initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
