Job summary

Commonpoint in New York invites a Group Leader to support daily afterschool programming, creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for youth, working with program leadership and frontline staff to ensure quality standards.

You will supervise participants, implement activities across academic, enrichment, SEL, leadership, recreation, literacy, and STEM, assist with family events, and help with field trips.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent OR at least one (1) year of experience working with children under 13 years of age.
• Staff must be at least 18 years old to supervise participants independently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with youth and work collaboratively with staff.
• Successfully complete all required background clearances and agency onboarding requirements.

Responsibilities

• Supervise participants during program hours, transitions, trips, and special events.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment while following all agency safety procedures.
• Support positive behavior using restorative and trauma-informed practices.
• Report incidents, injuries, and concerns according to agency procedures.
• Support daily implementation of academic, enrichment, SEL, leadership, recreation, literacy, and STEM activities.
• Prepare materials, assist with activity setup and cleanup, and support homework assistance as assigned.
• Assist with family events, showcases, and field trips.
• Youth Development: Build positive relationships and serve as a positive role model.
