Job summary

Berklee College of Music is seeking student employees to assist with AfroRoots programming and campus events. This on-campus role provides an hourly wage and flexible hours to fit a student schedule, offering hands-on experience in event planning, promotion, and student engagement.

The position supports planning and logistics for AfroRoots shows, creative promotion, and outreach. Eligible students must be enrolled at Berklee or Boston Conservatory and meet program requirements.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory.
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate program.
  • Summer employment is allowed if pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester.
  • Must have a valid United States SSN.
  • Able to remain in good disciplinary standing and located in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and execution of AfroRoots shows (approximately two per month).
  • Provide logistical support during performances, including set-up and artist coordination.
  • Help create and distribute promotional materials (flyers, graphics, social media content).
  • Support tabling, outreach, and engagement efforts for center programs and events.
  • Attend select events and assist with set-up.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager on event planning.
  • Maintain communication with students, AfroRoots artists, and students as needed.

Job description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements: Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters. Have a valid United States Social Security Number ("SSN"). Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable. A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester. Federal Work Study student may apply. About the AfroRoots Series

AfroRoots is an intimate concert series that takes place bi-monthly in the Africana Studies Center, featuring performances in music and musical theater. Students prepare a 20-minute set of songs and repertoire that ranges across the African Diaspora, showcasing a profound sense of Black creative expression and Black excellence. Required Skills and Knowledge


  • Currently enrolled student

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Interest in arts, culture, and/or African and African diasporic studies

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings

  • Self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively

  • Familiarity with Canva, Google Workspace, TikTok, and CapCut


Preferred Skills and Knowledge


  • Interest in event planning or production

  • Comfort with public engagement (e.g., tabling, flyering, outreach)

  • Social media experience is a bonus
