Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a proactive materials/process engineer within Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering (ACE) to develop and support TPS, adhesives, and coatings for flight hardware. You will work hands‑on with chem/materials engineers and technicians, learning to qualify processes and scale them from lab to production while maintaining safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Eng, Materials Sci & Eng, Chemistry or related field.
  • 2+ years in materials/process development, chemical processing or lab testing.
  • Foundational understanding of polymer chemistry, cure kinetics, rheology, surface prep and adhesion.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to take ownership with guidance.
  • Strong writing and communication, with interest in process specs.
  • Ability to read/interpret basic drawings, CAD models and callouts.
  • Solid lab safety knowledge (SDS, chemical storage, hazard eval).
  • Calm, cooperative, adaptable to changing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in development and qualification of TPS, adhesives, sealants, and coatings.
  • Execute coupon, component, and subscale process qualification campaigns.
  • Draft/edit material specs, process instructions, and test plans.
  • Conduct chemical/physical testing (DSC, TGA, FTIR, DMA, rheology) and mechanical tests (peel, lap shear, tensile).
  • Support scale‑up from lab to production on flight hardware.
  • Provide hands‑on shop floor support and track process metrics (shelf‑life, out‑time, environmental controls).
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, tooling engineers, and technicians to troubleshoot issues.
  • Assist with non‑conformance investigations (MRB) under senior staff guidance.
  • Enforce chemical safety standards and PPE compliance.
  • Travel 0–25% for vendor visits or off‑site activities.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized work area per 5S.
