Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL seeks a Materials & Processes engineer to identify materials and processes for liquid rocket engine hardware, develop and qualify them for production, and ensure repeatable, safe performance.

You will evaluate metallic materials, collaborate with design and manufacturing teams, lead test plans, and produce documentation to enable producibility while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum B.S. in Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years experience in Material and Process Engineering in aerospace.
  • Experience with aerospace material systems (Ni-, Cu-, Al-, Ti-based alloys).
  • Hands-on experience with high-temperature materials for space applications.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute test plans for materials analyses.
  • Knowledge of metallic material processing (forgings, castings, extrusions, hydroforming).
  • Understanding of environmental degradation and testing methods for metals.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and select metallic materials for liquid rocket engines considering mechanical/thermal/environmental factors.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing to integrate material/process requirements.
  • Ensure process controls for repeatable manufacturing of hardware.
  • Act as Materials & Processes signatory for engine drawings.
  • Develop and qualify materials to meet engine performance and environmental requirements.
  • Generate documentation for material and process specifications to support producibility.
  • Provide technical support and disposition nonconformances in material/process applications.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends in liquid rocket engine materials.
