Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a proactive Chemical/Materials Engineer to develop and qualify TPS, adhesives, and coatings for flight hardware. You will work with engineers and technicians to advance lab-scale processes toward production and ensure compliance with aerospace standards.

Applicants should have a BS in a relevant field and 2+ years in materials and process development, with strong safety and documentation skills. On-site role with opportunities for growth within ACE teams.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in materials and process development, chemical processing, or lab testing.
  • Foundational understanding of polymer chemistry, cure kinetics, rheology, surface prep physics, and adhesion.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn, with ownership of tasks.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with interest in process specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and material/finishing callouts.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, chemical storage, hazard evaluation, and SDS.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in development, testing, and qualification of manual and automated application and curing for TPS, adhesives, sealants, and coatings.
  • Under guidance, execute coupon-, component-, and subscale qualification and verification test campaigns.
  • Draft and edit material specs, process instructions, work travelers, and test plans.
  • Perform chemical/physical testing (DSC, TGA, FTIR, DMA, rheology) and mechanical tests (peel, lap shear, tensile).
  • Support scale-up to production-scale execution on flight hardware.
  • Provide day-to-day hands-on shop-floor support in clean rooms and assembly environments, tracking process metrics.
