Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a materials/chemical engineering professional to support the production of thermal protection systems, adhesives, sealants, and coatings for flight hardware. You will work hands-on in the manufacturing area, learning from senior engineers to develop, qualify, and scale processes with strict aerospace standards.

Ideal candidates have a strong foundation in polymer chemistry, lab testing, and process documentation, plus a proactive, safety-first mindset.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 2+ years in materials and process development, chemical processing, or lab testing.
  • Foundational understanding of polymer chemistry, cure kinetics, rheology, and adhesion.
  • Ability to read/interpret basic engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Strong safety mindset and familiarity with SDS and hazardous materials handling.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development, testing, and qualification of manual and automated TPS coatings and adhesives.
  • Conduct qualification tests and follow test campaigns under guidance.
  • Draft and edit material specs, process instructions, and test plans.
  • Perform chemical/physical testing and mechanical properties testing in the materials lab.
  • Support scale‑up from lab to production on flight hardware; maintain safe shop floor practices.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and tooling engineers to troubleshoot processes.
  • Support nonconformances MRB processes under senior staff guidance.
  • Adhere to chemical safety standards and PPE requirements; travel 0–25% as needed.
