Job summary

Blue Origin Engines in Washington state is seeking a Materials & Processes engineer to drive material selection, processing and qualification for liquid rocket engine hardware. You will collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure producibility and maintain tight process controls for repeatable spaceflight hardware.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in aerospace M&P, hands-on experience with high-temperature metallic materials, and a track record of developing test plans and signatory

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of aerospace Materials & Processes engineering experience.
  • Experience with Ni-, Cu-, Al-, Ti-based alloys commonly used in aerospace.
  • Hands-on experience with high-temperature materials used in spacecraft or engines.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans for materials qualification.
  • Knowledge of metallic material processing (forging, casting, extrusion, hydroforming).
  • Knowledge of environmentally-assisted degradation and testing methods (fatigue, creep, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and select metallic materials for liquid rocket engines.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing to integrate material requirements.
  • Ensure process controls for repeatable manufacturing.
  • Sign as Materials & Processes signatory for engine drawings.
  • Perform development and qualification testing under engine and environmental conditions.
  • Generate docs for material and process specifications to ensure process control.
  • Provide technical support and disposition of nonconformances.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends in liquid rocket engine materials.
