Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to join its ACE group. You will lead EMI/EMC testing and verification for avionics systems, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-461G and related aerospace standards.

This role involves developing test plans, performing full MIL-STD-461 test suites, and delivering rigorous documentation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive test automation, and contribute to the safety and reliability of spaceflight

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline.
  • 3 years of hands-on experience in EMC/EMI testing and verification across MIL-STD-461 CE, CS, RE, RS methods.
  • In-depth knowledge of MIL-STD-461G, DO-160G, MIL-B-5087, NASA-STD-4003, CISPR standards.
  • Proficiency in EMI test automation software, data acquisition, spectral post-processing, and limit-line comparison analysis.
  • Experience in small, cross-functional teams on fast-paced projects.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for EMI issues.
  • Excellent technical communication and collaboration across engineering disciplines.
  • U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S. per export control requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a responsible engineer for electrical system EMI/EMC test and verification, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-461G and internal guidelines.
  • Design, develop, and refine detailed Test Plans and Test Procedures for EMI/EMC tests on avionics components and systems.
  • Perform the complete MIL-STD-461 test suite including CE101, CE102, CS101, CS114, CS115, CS116, RE101, RE102, RS101, RS103.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain EMI/EMC test equipment such as EMI receivers, signal generators, LISNs, calibrated antennas, and probes.
  • Apply shielded room characterization and grounding techniques per MIL-STD-461 requirements.
  • Produce high-quality test reports with spectra, margins, calibration traceability, and pass/fail determinations.
  • Troubleshoot EMI/EMC test failures and propose corrective actions (filters, chokes, shielding, PCB layout changes).
  • Contribute to requirements definition for EMI/EMC, lightning, ESD, and RF.
  • Deliver presentations on EMC solutions to review boards.
  • Champion EMI design and system EMC engineering activities.
  • Conduct risk reduction testing for EMI/EMC.
