Job summary

M.C. Dean is seeking an experienced field technician to install, test, and maintain protective relays and metering equipment across energized electrical facilities.

You will interpret complex schematics, commission new installations, and coordinate with engineering and clients to ensure reliable operation. The role requires travel up to 50% domestically and internationally, with a strong emphasis on safety, documentation, and mentoring junior technicians.

Qualifications

• Requires NETA/NICET certification or equivalent hands-on experience in electrical testing.
• Strong knowledge of ANSI, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NEC and OSHA electrical safety standards.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
• Proficient in testing protective relays, circuit breakers and switchgear.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and program protective relays and associated wiring in energized rooms, vaults and substations.
• Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and substation drawings; assist inspections.
• Operate test equipment and follow safety procedures per handbook.
• Commission new relay and metering installations.
• Coordinate testing, troubleshooting and repairs with other departments.
• Maintain relays and related equipment such as standby generators and meters.
• Troubleshoot and replace faulty components; participate in emergency callouts.
• Prepare and maintain detailed test reports for compliance and client review.
