Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions in Adelanto, CA is seeking an experienced nurse practitioner or physician assistant to diagnose and treat inmates, focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.

You will order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, develop treatment plans, document care, and collaborate with physicians. A current state license and DEA license are required; 24-hour coverage may be necessary. Competitive benefits package available.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing or physician assistant studies required.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner, or as a Physician Assistant in the state of facility location; plus a DEA license.
• Two (2) years of advanced practice experience preferred.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses.
• Order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests with physician oversight as needed.
• Prescribe medication and manage treatment plans.
• Document all health care services in the patient’s medical record.
• Counsel patients on prescribed regimens and possible side effects.
• Educate patients about self-management and prevention.
• Refer to specialists when conditions exceed scope of practice.
