Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. seeks a qualified nurse practitioner or physician assistant to deliver primary care to inmates and detainees.

You must hold an active RN/NP or PA license in the facility state and a current DEA license; be at least 21; demonstrate strong clinical and communication skills; and work within an established healthcare team. Responsibilities include exams, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses, medication management, diagnostic testing, documentation, patient education, and care

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing or physician assistant studies.
• Current, unrestricted RN/NP or PA license in the state of the facility.
• Current DEA license.
• Two years of advanced practice experience preferred.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Ability to administer prescribed medications.
• Ability to perform complete physical appraisals of patients.
• Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses.
• Ability to initiate diagnostic laboratory tests and interpret results.
• Ability to manage the care of patients.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine medical examinations on inmates or detainees under established guidelines.
• Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical illnesses.
• Provide medical treatment in conjunction with a physician.
• Formulate treatment plans and prognosis based on health conditions.
• Prescribe medication dosages, routes, and frequencies as permitted.
• Order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests with physician oversight as needed.
• Develop clinical assessment and treatment plans based on data.
• Document health care services and maintain medical records.
• Counsel patients on prescribed regimens and possible interactions.
• Educate patients about self-management and disease prevention.
