Job summary

Connecticut Skilled Nursing Facility is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join its clinical leadership team. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the ADON helps plan and direct day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services Department, guiding charge nurses and supervisors to ensure high-quality resident care.

The role emphasizes regulatory compliance, quality improvement through QAPI, and ensuring residents’ physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required.
• Current, unencumbered RN license in the State of Connecticut is required; CPR certification is required.
• Minimum of two years nursing supervisory/leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or related healthcare setting.
• Minimum of six months experience in rehabilitative/restorative nursing practices.
• Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations including CMS Requirements of Participation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing daily operations of the Nursing Services Department.
• Provide leadership to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors and oversee training and delegation of tasks.
• Conduct daily clinical rounds to monitor care delivery, medications, protocols, and infection prevention standards.
• Participate in resident assessments and develop person-centered care plans.
• Assist in staffing planning, scheduling, and posting daily staffing information.
• Support recruitment, orientation, licensing verification, and performance evaluations of nursing staff.
• Coordinate care with physicians, medical consultants, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Lead the facility's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and participate in regulatory surveys.
• Oversee medication administration and reporting of medication errors to the Director of Nursing.
• Assist with budget planning and equipment/supply/resource allocations.
• Plan and conduct staff development and in-service training in line with facility policies.
