Overview
Elderwood is seeking a clinical leader for the important role of Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON - RN).
The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and an ability to foster teamwork.
Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) Position Overview:
- The ADON (RN) leads, supports, and ensures the health and well-being of our residents by assisting the DON with staffing, staff training, development, and management of personnel in the Nursing department.
- The ADON (RN) assesses residents, performs audits, and follows state, local, and federal regulations and best practices within his or her scope of practice.
- This individual also serves as Infection Control Preventionist.
- Assists the DON in directing and developing nursing activities and staff on all levels, ensuring the delivery of quality nursing services.
- Develops, implements, communicates, and interprets nursing policies and procedures that adhere to regulatory requirements and facility policies, maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Communicates policies and procedures to nursing staff and monitors their implementation.
- Requires RN license.
Responsibilities
Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) Responsibilities include:
- Assuming duties of the Director of Nursing in their absence, under the direction of the Administrator.
- Assisting in planning the nursing services portion of the resident discharge plan.
- Assuming duties of nursing personnel as needed or directed by DON and/or Administrator.
- Performing administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
- Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating nursing personnel, delegating tasks as necessary. Including counseling and recommending suspension or termination, with proper documentation.
- Ensuring adequate 24-hour nursing coverage.
- Ensuring all nursing assistants are enrolled in or have completed an approved training program.
- Assisting in determining staffing needs.
- Monitoring resident progress and eligibility for Medicare skilled services, and ensuring timely notifications and documentation.
- Making daily rounds to oversee nursing staff performance and resident care.
- Providing residents with a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.
- Monitoring medication passes and treatments to ensure adherence to schedules and orders.
- Reporting medication errors and providing direct nursing care as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements include:
- Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Current, active RN license.
- Baccalaureate degree preferred.
- Knowledge of geriatric long-term care, management principles, supervision, and communication systems.
- Physical examination indicating freedom from communicable diseases.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills.
- If driving is required, valid driver’s license with a good record and at least 21 years old.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience in healthcare settings; long-term care experience is desirable.
- Computer skills preferred.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English at an intermediate or higher level.
