Operational Accounting Manager (Contract or Contract-to-Hire)

$70-$100/hour | Converts at ~$160K base + 15% bonus + RSUs
Company Summary:
Our client is a profitable, investor-backed company operating at national scale, an unusual combination in a sector where growth is typically funded rather than earned. The finance organization is building deliberately toward public-company readiness, and it needs an experienced operational accounting leader who can step in right away and strengthen the close, controls and day-to-day accounting engine. The work is mission-driven, remote-first and highly visible, with real exposure to finance leadership.
Why It’s Worth a Look:
- A real path to permanent: the role can convert to full-time at about $160K base, plus a 15% bonus and RSUs
- Immediate impact: step in now and help build a public-company-ready close and controls environment
- High-visibility work: partner directly with finance leadership while owning the core accounting operations
- $70-$100 per hour, fully remote
- Equity upside on conversion: RSUs let you share in the company’s growth as it heads toward public-company readiness
What You’d Own:
- The month-end and quarter-end close: timelines, checklists and on-time, accurate delivery
- Journal entry prep and review, accruals, prepaids and fluctuation analysis
- Balance sheet reconciliations and review across key accounts
- Oversight of operational accounting areas such as accounts payable, cash, fixed assets and ASC 350-40 software capitalization
- Designing, documenting and evidencing SOX controls as the company prepares for public-company requirements
- Supporting the external audit with schedules, documentation and auditor requests
- Partnering with FP&A, Treasury and the business to resolve accounting issues
- Close automation, process improvement and system optimization
What They’re Looking For:
- CPA (preferred) with roughly 6-8+ years of accounting experience
- A start in the Big Four or a top 15 public accounting firm, ideally followed by industry experience
- Experience at a publicly traded company, with a strong understanding of public-company close and controls
- Hands-on ownership of the month-end close, reconciliations and journal entries
- Working knowledge of SOX and internal controls
- Able to ramp quickly and deliver from week one
- Comfortable without a playbook, and confident enough to push back
- Bonus: FloQast, NetSuite, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx
- Type: contract or contract-to-hire
- Start: immediate
- Contract rate: $70-$100 per hour
- Full-time conversion: about $160,000 base, plus a 15% annual bonus and RSUs
