  • Assist with PTK membership and Honors-related activities, including orientations and recognitions.
  • Prepare correspondence, flyers, announcements, presentations, and materials.
  • Track student participation, accomplishments, and program activities.
  • Serve as a positive, peer-informed resource for current RCC students.
  • Perform other duties related to academic programs and student engagement as assigned.

Position Summary

The Academic Programs Student Assistant provides administrative and student-support assistance to the Honors Program Coordinator and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Advisor. The position supports academic enrichment, student leadership, events, communications, outreach, and program activities that promote student achievement, engagement, and success. The student serves as a positive, peer-informed resource for current RCC students.

Assist the Honors Program Coordinator and PTK Advisor with day-to-day program operations.

Provide support and guidance to Honors and PTK students and help connect students with appropriate campus resources.

Assist with planning, coordinating, and promoting meetings, workshops, ceremonies, and student engagement activities.

Support student recruitment, outreach, and communications for Honors and PTK programs.

Maintain program records, student rosters, correspondence, and other administrative materials.

Assist with PTK membership and Honors-related activities, including orientations, inductions, and recognition events.

Prepare correspondence, flyers, announcements, presentations, and other program materials.

Help track student participation, accomplishments, and program activities.

Serve as a positive, peer-informed resource for current students.

Perform other duties related to academic programs and student engagement as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

Must be a currently enrolled RCC student who meets Learn & Earn eligibility requirements.

Must be in good academic standing.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Demonstrated commitment to student success and academic achievement.

Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle student information.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and general administrative technology.

Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous involvement in Honors, Phi Theta Kappa, student leadership, campus activities, or other student-success programs.

Prior administrative, student-support, outreach, event, or leadership experience.

Funding & Scheduling Structure

One Academic Programs Student Assistant placement is authorized through Learn & Earn. The student will maintain a schedule based on academic commitments, Honors/PTK program needs, and Learn & Earn eligibility requirements. The anticipated schedule includes Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday. The student may work no more than 18.5 hours per week.

Supervision & Performance

The Academic Programs Student Assistant reports to Sheila Victorin, Honors Program Coordinator and Phi Theta Kappa Advisor, and/or Dean Sharlene Malcolm. The student will receive role‑specific training, regular supervision, feedback, and professional‑development opportunities. Performance concerns will be addressed through RCC's progressive intervention process.

Advancement

Students who demonstrate strong performance, program knowledge, independent project ownership, leadership, and professional readiness may become candidates for future advanced academic program, student leadership, or project lead positions when available.
