Responsibilities

  • Assist with student inquiries, registration support, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Provide front-office and general administrative support to CWD programs.
  • Assist with outreach, recruitment, and follow-up communications with prospective and current students.
  • Support preparation of flyers, email communications, program materials, attendance records, and other documents.
  • Assist with data entry, tracking, filing, and maintenance of accurate program records.
  • Help prepare classrooms, materials, and supplies for classes, workshops, orientations, and events.
  • Support instructors and staff with routine program needs.
  • Assist with events, information sessions, certificate ceremonies, and other CWD activities.
  • Communicate professionally with students, instructors, staff, and community partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling student or departmental information.
  • Perform other related program-support duties as assigned.
  • Currently enrolled at Roxbury Community College for the applicable placement period.
  • Meet RCC Learn & Earn eligibility requirements for the approved placement.
  • Maintain good academic standing and any enrollment requirements applicable to the placement.
  • Complete all required student-employment, onboarding, and payroll documentation before beginning work.
  • Work only the approved Learn & Earn schedule and duties assigned by the designated supervisor

Recommended Hours:Weekday, evening, weekend, and approved off-campus coverage as applicable to the role and placement site

Maximum Hours:18.5 hours per week

Position Summary

The Workforce Program Student Assistant supports the Center for Workforce Development (CWD) with day-to-day program operations, student services, outreach, and administrative activities. The student gains practical experience supporting workforce, lifelong learning, healthcare, language, and academic preparation programs while working with staff, students, instructors, and community partners. This Level I entry‑level position is designed to build foundational workplace skills in customer service, administrative support, professional communication, outreach, event support, and program coordination. No prior related work experience or specialized coursework is required.

Learn & Earn Responsibilities

Assist with student inquiries, registration support, appointment scheduling, and referrals.

Provide front‑office and general administrative support to CWD programs.

Assist with outreach, recruitment, and follow‑up communications with prospective and current students.

Funding & Scheduling Structure

Learn & Earn placement(s) are authorized for this role. Scheduling is based on the approved experiential‑learning assignment, operational needs, and the student's academic commitments. RCC‑funded placements are subject to applicable student‑employment work‑hour limits, with a maximum of 18.5 hours per week.

Supervision & Performance

The Workforce Program Student Assistant reports to Jenny Marcelin or another designated Center for Workforce Development supervisor. Students will receive role‑specific training, regular supervision, feedback, and professional‑development opportunities. Student employees are expected to comply with RCC Student Employment policies, CWD procedures, confidentiality expectations, and professional conduct standards. Performance concerns will be addressed through RCC's progressive intervention process.

Advancement

Students who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, program knowledge, independent problem‑solving, project ownership, and peer leadership may become candidates for future Level III lead or advancedworkforce program‑support positions when such opportunities are available.
