Job summary

Public Safety Dispatch Network in Dunbar, WV seeks 911 Call Takers to answer emergency lines, verify locations, and document information for rapid response. You may work rotating shifts and complete training and certifications.

Responsibilities include using approved questions, entering data into dispatch software, and maintaining caller privacy while providing calm guidance. Prior customer service is helpful; dispatch experience is a plus but not always required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or recognized equivalent; prior dispatch experience not always required.
• Customer service or call-center experience is helpful for this role.
• Assessments and minimum scores are set by the hiring agency and may vary by vacancy.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency calls and assigned nonemergency lines.
• Confirm incident location and caller’s callback information.
• Use approved questions to identify the nature and urgency of the situation.
• Enter accurate details into call-processing or dispatch software.
• Forward incident information promptly to the appropriate dispatch function.
• Assist distressed callers with essential questions and instructions.
• Use language-access resources when needed.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions only within training and certification.
