Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a Paraeducator to provide one-on-one assistance to a 4th grade student with a disability during the school day. The role supports the certificated teacher with instructional and personal care needs and requires completion of the state General Paraeducator Certificate.

Training includes 28 hours of FCS training within set timeframes, with ongoing professional development. The position emphasizes safety, confidentiality, and collaboration with staff and families in

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 72 credit hours and ability to assist in instruction for students with disabilities.
• One year of experience with special needs individuals or relevant training.
• Willingness to complete required district trainings and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to students individually or in small groups per teacher direction.
• Assist with self-care activities as needed and monitor student safety.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and bus loading/unloading.
• Record student progress and communicate with teachers and families as assigned.
• Assist in adapting materials and activities for students with disabilities.
• Assist in administering tests and using adaptive equipment as directed.
• Participate in staff meetings and coordinate classroom activities.
