Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a dedicated Special Education Assistant/ISE-203 to support 1-1 student supervision, care, and instruction within regular or self-contained classrooms. You will assist in implementing IEPs, monitoring behavior, and providing information to school personnel.

The role involves collaboration with teachers, attendance at IEP meetings, and providing health-related support as needed in home or school environments.

Qualifications

• Knowledge: instructional procedures and practices; age-appropriate student activities; safety practices and procedures; conflict resolution; stages of child development/behavior.
• Skills: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
• Ability: gather data; work with diverse groups; problem solving with data and equipment; communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities and materials to accommodate all special education students.
• Administers tests, homework, and records to help teacher evaluate progress.
• Administers first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Assists students with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations.
• Attends meetings and trainings to stay informed on job duties.
• Confer with teachers and parents about student progress and IEP objectives.
• Directs and implements behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
• Instructs students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives and remediation goals.
• Maintains materials and student records for reliable information.
• Monitors students for safety in various school settings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
