Job summary

A veterinary care provider in Singapore is seeking an experienced veterinary professional for emergency and critical care of small animals and exotic species. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience, excellent communication skills, and certification in Emergency and Critical Care is preferred. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality patient care and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Certification in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in endoscopy and/or gastroscopy is advantageous.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Deliver emergency and critical care to small animals and exotic species during scheduled shifts.
  • Attend daily inpatient rounds at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide in-hospital consultations for emergency cases presented during day and night shifts.
  • Conduct thorough physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and advanced medical treatments.
  • Perform emergency surgical procedures and appropriate diagnostic interventions (e.g., TFAST/AFAST, radiography, endoscopy, CT scans, bloodwork).
  • Interpret diagnostic findings to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Stabilize and manage patients with trauma, toxic exposures, and acute medical conditions.
  • Prescribe and administer appropriate pharmaceuticals based on diagnostics and clinical evaluation.
  • Collaborate closely with veterinary technicians, support staff, and specialty teams to deliver high‑quality, multidisciplinary care.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with pet owners regarding diagnostics, treatment options, prognosis, and home care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient medical records, including clinical notes, diagnoses, and therapeutic plans.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental transfers to relevant specialists and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Refer cases to external specialists when necessary, including timely updates and discharge summaries to referring veterinarians.
  • Manage a fast‑paced and high‑volume caseload while upholding professional standards under pressure.
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary ethical standards and internal medical protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in emergency veterinary care.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior team members and assist in fostering a collaborative ECC team environment.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in small animal and/or exotic emergency and critical care practice.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Certification in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) is highly desirable and considered an asset.
  • Proficiency or experience in endoscopy and/or gastroscopy is advantageous.
  • Veterinary degree must be recognized by the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVA) in Singapore.
