Overview
The Communication System Engineer/Senior Communication System Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of communication systems for railway projects. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in railway communication systems, particularly in LTA (Land Transport Authority) projects, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality designs and solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and Engineering: Responsible for the design and engineering of communication systems for railway projects, including:
- Train-to-ground communication systems
- Radio communication systems
- Public address and passenger information systems
- CCTV and surveillance systems
- Fiber optic networks and transmission systems
- Travel information systems
- Network and Wi-Fi
- Collaboration: Work with cross‑functional teams, including civil, electrical, and signaling partners/contractors, to ensure seamless integration of communication systems with other railway subsystems.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare and review technical specifications, design drawings, and documentation in compliance with LTA standards and other relevant regulations.
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and technical evaluations to support project planning and decision‑making.
- Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
- Client Liaison: Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met and deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
- Implementation: Participate in site surveys, testing, training, and commissioning activities to ensure the successful implementation of communication systems.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in railway communication systems.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the design and implementation of communication systems, with a focus on railway communication projects.
- Project Experience: Proven experience working on LTA railway projects or similar large-scale rail infrastructure projects.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of railway communication standards and protocols.
- Tools Proficiency: Familiarity with design and simulation tools.
- Guidelines: Familiarity with LTA’s Engineering Design Handbook and other relevant guidelines.
- Team Collaboration: Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Problem‑Solving: Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
