Job summary

A leading manufacturer in advanced materials, located in Singapore, is seeking a skilled professional in thin film processes. The role entails troubleshooting manufacturing challenges, implementing preventive measures, and supporting new product introductions. Candidates should have a strong degree in relevant engineering fields and experience in advanced manufacturing. An adherence to safety protocols and commitment to continuous improvement is essential. Training will involve overseas commitments. The work requires technical knowledge and capacity to manage projects effectively.

Qualifications

  • Work experience in thin film coating or in an advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Thin Film Deposition Physics and Thin Film Design.
  • Knowledge of high vacuum systems and evaporation techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Implement long-term preventive measures for defects.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects.

Job description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Leverage expertise in cleaning processes and materials to systematically troubleshoot and resolve process and manufacturing challenges.
  2. Identify and correlate process and equipment variables with defects or failures, implementing sustainable, long‑term preventive measures.
  3. Generate innovative and practical ideas for process optimization and product improvement.
  4. Achieve and exceed process yield targets set at the start of each financial year.
  5. Enhance manufacturing yields, operational efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness.
  6. Support new product introduction and process transfer, including process flow definition, tooling design, and documentation.
  7. Participate in continuous improvement projects to optimise production performance.
  8. Utilise engineering tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to analyse process variables and their effects on thin‑film and substrate properties.
  9. Maintain ISO‑compliant process documentation, conduct audits, and provide training to ensure consistent quality standards.
  10. Conduct hands‑on training for technicians on new or updated processes.
Education & Experience
  1. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics
  2. Work experience in thin film coating or in an advanced manufacturing environment
  3. Strong analytical & project management skills
  4. Good technical knowledge of the thermal & optical properties of materials
  5. Knowledge of Thin Film Deposition Physics & Thin Film Design
  6. Knowledge of high vacuum systems, evaporation techniques, cleaning & drying technologies.
  7. Knowledge of DOE, FMEA, SPC, TQM
Skills
  • Data visualization in Power BI or similar platform
  • Ability to analyse and extract meaningful insight of data
  • Knowledge of work safety practices, handling of industrial/ hazardous materials
  • Strong analytical & project management skills.
  • Good technical knowledge of the chemical & optical properties of materials, in particular silicon, zinc selenide, germanium, gallium arsenide.
  • Knowledge of ultrasonic wet cleaning & advanced drying techniques.
Other Requirement
  • Must commit to Overseas Training estimate duration of 10 weeks at Coherent site in United States/Philippines for future date. Training bond 1.5 years will start from date of return from overseas.
  • Non‑color deficiency required to check optics quality
Working Conditions
  • Cleanroom. PPE: Smock, face mask, safety shoe
  • Monday to Friday office hour
  • Willing to work on rostered Saturday/Sunday workday replacing weekday workday when required.
  • Exposure to low level of radiation with safety protection measure in place.
  • Require clean shave to wear tight‑fit respirator when job requires
