Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight, and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Manager, Resilience Risk.

In this role you will:
  • Provide technical advice and support to the Singapore Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Business and Infrastructure coverage teams to allow them to understand and ensure the risk for the First Line of Défense (1LOD) are commensurate with the scale and nature of operations; and Risk and Control Owners clearly understand the effectiveness of the control environment. Such advice may be related to the control environment; risk assessment; impact of issues or events; top and emerging risks that may require changes to remain within respective Risk Appetite; and the development and implementation of localised Risk Management Framework activity as required (e.g. Locally Significant Risks) or to meet local regulatory expectations
  • Deliver tailored and specific expertise, as well as review and challenge across Singapore. The intent is to enable 1LOD to successfully deploy and operate mitigating key controls; fully understand and correctly treat the root cause of relevant local operational risk issues and events; and elevate any RR matters when needed. Ensure any RR related concern with key controls, critical issues, events, incidents and material change programmes are understood and escalated as needed for appropriate and timely resolution and RR related initiatives are not adversely affected due to poor planning, testing and approach during the delivery
  • Provide technical guidance to support development and completion of Enterprise Risk and Regulatory reporting obligations (e.g. RAS, Top & Emerging Risks, Risk Profile Reporting, RMM, Board reporting where relevant, etc)
  • Lead Singapore regulator and audit engagement pertaining to RR; and ensure regulatory compliance for the specialist area/s and timely completion of Audit actions and findings
  • Monitor the local external environment to get early sight of emerging risks and provide detailed guidance on controls required to mitigate against them. Build and maintain relevant cross‑organisation and industry relationships
  • Support training and capability uplift for the ERM Business and Infrastructure coverage teams and wider HSBC Singapore community to ensure robust understanding of all RR areas. Support region/ global RR Specialist teams to leverage niche expertise and knowledge
  • Conduct Impacts: Oversee, elevate and provide guidance on the identification of conduct impacts across RR and 1LOD activities, including where control weaknesses and risk events impact the delivery of good outcomes
  • Do additional specific Country responsibilities may be added to this role profile at the direction of the Head of Resilience Risk and DPO
To be successful you will need:
  • To think independently, see the “bigger picture” to understand the interrelationships between complex issues and assess the impact from a regulatory, financial and reputational perspective; and exercise strong 2LOD review and challenge
  • To maintain good technical knowledge and familiarity with HSBC Group operations and risk management framework to provide expert advice that strikes an appropriate balance between management and mitigation of RR, business efficacy, and the potential risks and impacts for all RR areas
  • To distil and communicate complex ideas in an understandable manner assisting the business to make difficult decisions
  • To manage and engage with a complex network of internal and external stakeholders (external partners, regulators, industry bodies) across different seniorities. Adapt communication style and content to appropriately address management level of the audience
  • To adapt workstyle to meet complex and varied workloads
  • To be seen as a role model by business stakeholders and colleagues, leading by example
