Job Description Summary

This role will cover labour and employment issues across APAC including, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia ("covered regions"). The role reports directly to the International Labour & Employment Leader for GE Aerospace, with strong links to the General Counsels for the countries/regions. This role will be based in Singapore; Perth, Australia; Bangalore or Pune, India.

Role Overview

Providing legal advice and support on Labour and Employment law issues to GE Aerospace in the covered regions.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal and compliance advice across a wide range of issues including employee and union relations; restructuring, redundancies and outsourcing;
  • Equal opportunities and diversity;
  • Employment litigation;
  • Mergers, acquisitions and divestitures;
  • Collective bargaining obligations;
  • Employee discipline, performance management, grievances and termination;
  • Drafting of employment separation agreements and workplace policies;
  • Reviewing and advising on workplace investigations;
  • Advising on working time obligations and other minimum statutory benefits;
  • Retain and work effectively with outside counsel where required, and manage external counsel to reduce costs;
  • Secure value‑added services and improve make‑vs‑buy decisions;
  • Drive simplification initiatives and consistent enterprise standards for Labour and Employment support across the covered regions;
  • Training for the HR and business teams on key employment and compliance risk areas;
  • Keeping abreast of relevant legal developments across the covered regions.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience working for a large multinational corporation across the APAC region, advising stakeholders on both contentious and non‑contentious matters, with particular focus on the areas set out in the role overview.

Required Qualifications
  • Qualified lawyer, licensed to practice in a major jurisdiction within the covered regions.
  • Substantial legal post‑qualification labour and employment experience within one of the covered regions, preferably including time spent with a leading law firm and in‑house at a large multinational corporation.
  • Extensive hands‑on labour & employment legal experience, including international experience.
  • Substantial experience and success in working with senior management and international environments.
  • Experience of labour and employment work on M&A activity, litigation, advisory work and training.
  • Superior advocacy skills, including the ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally, with an aptitude for practical negotiation.
  • Ability to think clearly and quickly under pressure, and composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests.
  • A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism, and passion for excellence.
  • A work history that demonstrates leadership and ability to persuade and push others to deliver on commitments.
  • Demonstrable fluency in English, including the ability to draft, negotiate and present legal and business documents in English.
  • Superior negotiating skills and ability to work in a complex international environment, with substantial experience working across cultures.
  • Demonstrable computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and redlining tools.
  • Strong project‑management and prioritisation skills.
  • Record of dedicated and successful teamwork, excellent interpersonal and diplomatic abilities.
