Job Summary:

The Special Education School Principal provides strategic, instructional, and operational leadership for a school serving students with diverse disabilities. The principal ensures high-quality educational programming, compliance with special education regulations, safe learning environments, and strong collaboration with staff, families, and the community. This role requires deep knowledge of special education practices, individualized learning, behavior intervention, and school administration.

Key Responsibilities
A. Leadership & School Management
  • Develop and implement the school's vision, goals, and improvement plans.
  • Oversee daily operations, scheduling, and staffing.
  • Ensure the school environment is safe, inclusive, and aligned with special education standards.
B. Instructional Leadership
  • Oversee curriculum implementation and ensure individualized instruction.
  • Monitor classroom instruction, ensuring accommodations, modifications, and assistive technologies are provided.
  • Support teachers through observation, coaching, and professional development.
C. IEP & Program Compliance
  • Ensure development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs or equivalent plans.
  • Lead annual reviews, eligibility meetings, and documentation processes.
  • Maintain compliance with all local and national special education laws.
D. Staff Supervision & Development
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate teaching and support staff.
  • Provide ongoing training on special education practices, behavioral support, and pedagogy.
  • Foster teamwork among interdisciplinary professionals.
E. Student Support & Safety
  • Oversee assessments, placements, interventions, and behavioral plans.
  • Ensure crisis management protocols and de-escalation strategies are followed.

F. Family & Community Engagement
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with families, ensuring regular communication.
  • Facilitate parent education workshops and support meetings.
