The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary school that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focused on Asian environmental challenges. The ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability. The Organo-Mineral Group (OMG) within the Asian School of the Environment (ASE) is seeking a Research Fellow. This position is part of a Nanyang Assistant Professor startup grant. The Research Fellow will conduct fieldwork and laboratory analysis.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct fieldwork
  • HPLC analysis including preparative HPLC for compound specific isotope analysis with amino acids and their enantiomers
  • Mineral analysis through XRD and characterization through N2 BET surface area determination
  • Develop new analytical approaches for characterizing organic matter-mineral associations
  • Participate in mentoring research assistants/associates and students
  • Publishing results in international peer-reviewed journals
The competencies and qualifications of an ideal candidate are listed below:
  • PhD in Geoscience or related field
  • Isotope geochemistry including work with natural abundance radiocarbon
  • Environmental mineralogy and relevant methodology (e.g., XRD)
  • Familiarity with environmental chemistry and fieldwork
  • As the position requires stakeholder engagement in English, candidate should have good written and oral communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in wet chemical handling, analytical geochemistry
  • Ability to develop new analytical methodology
  • Competent in communication, fieldwork and logistics
  • Ability to work independently/ develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous and eye for details/ excellent organizational/ time management and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to write and publish scientific articles in internationally peer-reviewed journals at the forefront of the discipline
  • Strong mentoring skills for research assistants/associates and students
  • Enthusiasm for research and team spirit
