Job Description

The Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, invites applications for a full time Research Assistant position. The successful candidate will support ongoing projects in genome engineering, directed evolution and synthetic biology that aim to perform directed evolution and characterization of genome editing tools. Working under the supervision of Dr Lee Jungjoon Kempthorne and senior research staff.

The Research Assistant is expected to:

  1. Perform molecular cloning, plasmid preparation, cell culture, e.coli or phage assisted directed evolution screening and phenotypic assays.
  2. Routine laboratory maintenance and accurate documentation of experimental procedures and results.
Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Hold at least a good bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, or related disciplines;
  2. With hands‑on experience in basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA assembly, agarose gel electrophoresis and microbial and cell line culture;
  3. Prior experience in any of the following areas is advantageous but not essential: E. coli based and phage assisted directed evolution, next generation sequencing workflows, CRISPR genome editing, and quantitative data analysis using standard scientific software or scripting tools;
  4. Possess strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, willingness to learn new experimental and analytical methods and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to receive advanced training in E. coli based and phage assisted directed evolution, next generation sequencing and genome editing assays, and to contribute to publications and technology development arising from the programme.
