OVERVIEW

Our client is a long/short hedge fund with a strong focus on Japanese equities and expanding exposure across Asia. They're looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Research Assistant to support our investment team.

This is a data-focused support role — you won't be expected to generate investment ideas or attend company meetings, but your work will be essential in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial data infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and Extract Data: Regularly review financial reports (e.g., Kessan Tanshin), corporate filings, and IR presentations from Japan-listed companies.
  • Data Entry: Accurately extract and input key financial figures, performance metrics, and company guidance from Japanese-language documents.
  • Model Updates: Maintain and update internal financial models and databases in Excel.
  • Team Support: Assist investment analysts with administrative and research-related tasks as needed.
Requirements
  • Language Skills: JLPT N1 certification is required to accurately interpret Japanese financial documents.
  • Excel Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including data entry, formulas, and spreadsheet management.
  • Financial Knowledge: Solid understanding of accounting principles and the three core financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
  • Experience: 1–2 years in a role supporting equity research or investment teams (e.g., junior research assistant, research associate). Experience in buy‑side or sell‑side firms is preferred.
  • Personal Attributes: High attention to detail, accuracy, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Work Ethic: Organized, reliable, and able to manage time‑sensitive tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Career Development

This role is a great entry point into the asset management industry. It offers hands‑on experience with financial data and insight into how it supports investment decisions. For high‑performing individuals, there's potential to deepen your understanding of fundamental analysis and the hedge fund space by working closely with an experienced team.
