Preparation and screening of cytological specimens (encompassing Gynaecological and non-gynaecological tests) for the diagnosis of the disease. Aim to prepare for the IAC examination in Gynaecological and non-gynaecological diagnosis.

Job Responsibilities

  • Receive and accession both non-gynae and gynae specimens.
  • Processing Gynae specimens (both liquid based Cytology and conventional smears) and subsequently mounting and labeling the prepared slides.
  • Preparation of non-gynae specimens including staining, mounting and labeling of the prepared slides.
  • Primary and secondary screening of both gynaecological (PAP) smears as well as non gynaecological specimens.
  • Assist clinicians and radiologists/endoscopists in the running of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) procedures
  • Perform and record QC checks in the laboratory including filtering of stains, changing of alcohol and xylene as well as equipment maintenance.
  • Comply by the laboratory Health and Safety regulations.
  • Able to produce high quality of work and maintaining good standards.
  • Willing to undergo training and development as and when necessary.
  • Assist the senior cytotechs in stock taking, i.e. stock check, ordering of stains and other materials required by the laboratory.
  • Assist in the maintenance of proper recording and filing of QA sheets, including temperature monitoring sheets of the refrigerators and microscopy maintenance sheets.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Biological/Life Sciences preferred
  • Possess a valid IAC (International Academy of Cytology) certificate in Gynae and Non Gynae; or a recognized Cytology certificate preferred.
