The purpose of this role is to provide strategic direction for underwriting portfolios in the region, ensuring growth and profitability. This role involves managing a team of underwriters, writing guidelines, underwriting complex new businesses, and offering specialist advice. Additionally, the role is responsible for building and maintaining broker relationships, applying technical expertise, contributing to business results, and staying informed about industry standards and new product introductions.

Responsibilities
  • Significantly contribute to the creation and delivery of the portfolio business plan, with specific responsibility for your area(s) of expertise.
  • Monitor and report on progress, identify deviations, recommend remedial action, and implement to achieve business objectives in your area(s) of expertise.
  • Recommend to leaders the resources needed to deliver the plan.
  • Underwrite reinsurance risks to meet business objectives, including negotiating rates, terms, and conditions for existing and new business.
  • Manage production and issue of contract certainty documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines.
  • Oversee and contribute to compliance within your area(s) of expertise with underwriting authorities, legal and regulatory requirements, peer review and underwriting standards/best practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including customers, brokers, industry bodies, business partners, reinsurers, and colleagues, to maximise influence.
  • Keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness, specifically in your area(s) of expertise, to operate effectively and appropriately.
  • Motivate and develop more junior team members, with specific reference/responsibility for your area of expertise.
Work Experience
  • Significant relevant reinsurance experience.
