About Amber - School of the Future
Amber is a next-generation preschool launching in Singapore. We are Reggio-inspired, inquiry-led and inclusive, balancing academics with emotional intelligence and life skills. We partner closely with both local and expat families.
The role (what you’ll lead)
You will design and own Amber’s Chinese Programme (N1–K2), coach a team of Chinese educators, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with the English Programme lead to deliver a cohesive, bilingual experience.
Key responsibilities
- Curriculum leadership: Build the Chinese scope & sequence (N1–K2), unit plans and planning templates aligned with NEL/Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) aims and Amber’s values (inquiry, play, inclusion).
- Pedagogy & assessment: Champion joyful oracy, songs/rhymes, character awareness and emergent literacy. Create simple rubrics and documentation practices (learning stories, portfolios).
- Bilingual integration: Co-plan with the English team so projects, vocabulary and provocations mesh naturally (e.g., shared themes, co-teaching rituals).
- Differentiation: Design pathways for heritage speakers and beginners (including children new to Mandarin); provide strategies for neuro-affirming practice.
- People & coaching: Recruit, onboard and mentor Chinese teachers/assistants; run observations, lesson study and PD cycles; model classes.
- Environment & resources: Curate language-rich spaces (labels, readers, story baskets, music) and manage the Chinese library & materials budget.
- Quality & compliance: Ensure lesson planning, ratios and records meet ECDA expectations; contribute to SPARK readiness and internal audits.
- Family partnership: Host parent workshops, bilingual conferences and cultural moments (Mid-Autumn, Spring Festival) with sensitivity to a diverse community.
- Data & improvement: Set programme goals; review children’s progress and teacher growth; report succinctly to leadership.
What you’ll bring
- ECDA-recognised Early Childhood qualification (L2) with Chinese Language specialisation; a leadership qualification (e.g., centre leadership/coordination) is an advantage.
- 5+ years’ preschool teaching experience, including 2+ years in a lead/subject head/coordinator role.
- High proficiency in Mandarin (Putonghua) and confident English for staff/parent communication.
- Strong grasp of NEL/MTL principles and play-based, inquiry/Reggio practice.
- Evidence of curriculum design, teacher coaching and differentiation for mixed-ability and non-native learners.
- Current Child First Aid (or willing to obtain) and ability to clear background/reference checks.
Nice to have
- Experience in bilingual/international settings.
- Training in Chinese early literacy approaches, music & movement, or story-drama.
- Comfort with digital tools (photos/video documentation, simple dashboards).
What we offer
- Founding influence over a flagship Chinese Programme.
- Protected non-contact time for planning & coaching.
- Paid professional development (Reggio/inquiry, inclusion, leadership).
- Competitive salary with performance bonus; wellness and family-friendly leave.
- A calm, beautifully designed environment with values-aligned team.
