We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our team in the agriculture sector. The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of our agricultural operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, cost analysis, risk management, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agricultural finance, coupled with exceptional analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Governance & Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the overall financial strategy aligned with organisational and agriculture business objectives.
- Provide high-level financial advice to the CEO/MD/Board and support major business decisions (crop investment strategies, expansion, CAPEX, funding, etc.).
- Anticipate financial risks and opportunities for both short-term and long-term planning.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial processes, systems, and controls across allregional agriculture operations
Oversight of Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of consolidated financial statements across all farms, processing units, and business units.
- Establish and enforce accounting policies, chart of accounts, and reporting standards for agriculture operations across locations.
- Oversee statutory audits, internal audits, and external reviews; address audit findings promptly.
- Ensure full compliance with IFRS, local GAAP, tax regulations, and agriculture-industry financial rules.
Advanced Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual strategic financial planning cycle for all operations (farms, factories, trading).
- Approve final budgets submitted by Deputy FC; challenge assumptions to ensure robustness and cost discipline.
- Align financial forecasts with agriculture commodity cycles, production seasonality, and market volatility. Oversee multi-year CAPEX planning for equipment, processing plants, storage, and mechanisation.
Treasury, Cashflow & Funding Management
- Manage overall corporate liquidity, cashflow sufficiency, and working capital optimization.
- Maintain relationships with banks and financial institutions to negotiate loans, credit facilities, and hedging arrangements.
- Oversee foreign exchange risk management for export-oriented agriculture operations.
- Approve treasury transactions, cash allocations, and major payment decisions.
Cost Control, Profitability & Operational Finance
- Set cost-control frameworks, cost benchmarks, and profitability targets for all farm and processing operations.
- Approve major procurement budgets, cost strategies, and cost-reduction initiatives proposed by Deputy FC. Evaluate farm-level and product-line profitability (cashew, sesame, soya, etc.).
Regulatory, Taxation & Compliance Management
- Oversee direct and indirect tax planning, compliance, and filings across countries ofoperation.
- Ensure adherence to agricultural laws, export policies, environmental regulations, and subsidy-related financial compliance.
- Engage with government agencies on tax rulings, incentives, and regulatory matters.
Risk Management & Corporate Controls
- Establish enterprise-wide risk management frameworks for agriculture operations.
- Identify macroeconomic, commodity price, climate-related, geopolitical, and operational risks.
- Approve insurance structures, coverage levels, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Strengthen internal control systems across all regions (fraud prevention, asset protection, segregation of duties).
Oversight of Grants, Subsidies & Government Relations
- Provide strategic direction on optimizing government schemes and agriculture grants.
- Review, approve, and monitor grant utilization and compliance.
- Maintain high-level relationships with government bodies on financial and agriculture policy matters.
Stakeholder & Investor Management
- Present financial results, risks, and strategic outlook to senior management, Board, investors, and lenders. Support investor due diligence and capital-raising efforts.
- Ensure transparent and credible financial communication to all stakeholders.
Systems, Process Improvement & Digitalisation
- Lead digital transformation of financial systems (ERP, farm management systems, costing systems).
- Implement automation, business intelligence tools, and data-driven reporting for improved decision-making. Ensure scalability of financial systems in line with expansion plans.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead the full finance function, including Deputy Financial Controller, accountants, analysts,and treasury staff.
- Build a high-performing team with strong agriculture-sector finance capabilities.
- Set performance objectives, conduct evaluations, and ensure continuous staff development.
- Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CA
- Strong understanding of agricultural finance, including cost analysis, budgeting, and risk management.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and regulatory requirements specific to the agriculture sector.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead cross-functional teams effectively.
