Job summary

A precision engineering firm in Singapore is seeking a Machinist to operate and maintain precision machining equipment including EDM and grinding machines. The ideal candidate should have a NITEC or diploma in engineering, with 1–3 years of hands-on experience. Responsibilities include interpreting engineering drawings and performing inspections to ensure finished parts meet strict tolerances and quality standards. Candidates with experience in Electrical Discharge Machining and Precision Grinding will be prioritized.

Job description
Job Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain precision machining equipment, including EDM (Electrical Discharge Wire‑Cut Machining) and Grinding machines (Surface / Cylindrical).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, work SOP, and machining instructions to plan machining processes.
  • Select and prepare appropriate fixtures, grinding wheels, and machining parameters according to job requirements.
  • Monitor machining processes, adjust offsets/parameters, and troubleshoot issues to ensure consistent accuracy and surface finish.
  • Perform in‑process and final inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
  • Ensure finished parts meet required tolerances, flatness, roundness, and surface quality.
  • Conduct routine machine cleaning and basic preventive daily checks to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including job tracking, machining parameters, inspection results, and production logs.
  • Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and quality teams to resolve machining challenges and support process improvements.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment, following all safety and operational guidelines.
  • Support production schedules and perform overtime or shift work when required.
Requirements
  • NITEC / Higher NITEC / Diploma in Precision Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 1–3 years of hands‑on machining experience in any of the following:
    • Electrical Discharge Machining (Wire‑Cut)
    • Precision Grinding (Surface / Cylindrical)
  • Candidates with experience in both areas will be given priority.
  • Strong understanding of machining tolerances, tool offsets, cutting parameters, and material behavior.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, drawing symbols, and machining instructions.
  • Proficient in using measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges and other precision tools.
  • Good problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Responsible, disciplined, and able to follow production schedules and quality requirements.
  • Willing to work overtime or shift when needed.
  • Basic understanding of machine maintenance and workplace safety practices.
