1.Role Summary
The Chinese Dance Instructor will design, plan, and implement a developmentally appropriate dance training programme for Primary or Secondary level students, in alignment with the school’s CCA vision, values, and MOE’s Reference Guide for Engagement of Coaches and Instructors.
The instructor will nurture students’ passion for Chinese Dance, impart technical and artistic dance skills, and prepare them for internal and external performances such as school events, the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation, and community showcases.
Key Responsibilities
A. Programme Design and Delivery
- Design and conduct a 30- to 45-session training programme (depending on school schedule) that progressively develops students’:
Fundamental techniques (posture, coordination, flexibility, rhythm)
Cultural appreciation and artistic expression
Performance readiness and stage presence
- Structure lessons into clear phases:
Foundation and Technique
Choreography and Performance
Refinement and Showcase Preparation
- Integrate school values, 21st Century Competencies (21CC), and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) principles into lessons.
B. Performance Preparation
- Choreograph and direct dance items for:
SYF Arts Presentation, School Celebrations, and Community Events.
- Oversee music selection, costume coordination, and artistic interpretation.
- Ensure all choreography and music adhere to Intellectual Property (IP) laws.
C. Collaboration and Consultation
- Work closely with the Teacher-in-Charge and CCA Coordinator to:
Co-develop the CCA Work Plan / Student Development Plan.
Conduct termly progress reviews.
Identify and develop student leaders.
- Support school events requiring dance performances when requested.
D. Student Development and Welfare
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Instil values of discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and respect.
- Conduct briefings on safety and warm-up protocols before every session.
- Submit attendance, progress updates, and evaluation forms regularly.
E. Administration and Compliance
- Provide lesson plans, student progress records, and term reports.
- Adhere to all MOE and school safety guidelines.
- Conduct e-CCA / Home-Based Dance Sessions via approved platforms when required (e.g., Zoom, SLS, MS Teams).
2. Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching or performing Chinese Dance in a school or professional setting.
- Strong background in Chinese Classical, Folk, or Ethnic Dance forms.
- Diploma or equivalent certification in Dance, Performing Arts, or Physical Education preferred.
- Proven track record in preparing students for SYF or equivalent arts presentations.
- Familiarity with MOE CCA framework and student development outcomes.
