Company / Role Overview

This role sits within a large, multinational organisation operating in a highly regulated environment, with significant investments in artificial intelligence across multiple business lines and regions. The AI Governance Officer is responsible for establishing and driving a robust enterprise-wide AI governance framework to ensure the ethical, transparent, secure, and compliant use of AI technologies. The position partners closely with senior leadership, regional teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to align AI initiatives with organisational values, internal standards, and evolving regulatory expectations, while supporting the broader AI strategy and roadmap across the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and continuously enhance an enterprise-wide AI governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures governing the development, deployment, and use of AI systems.
  • Ensure AI initiatives comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards, proactively monitoring changes in regulatory and ethical requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Lead AI impact assessments to identify, document, and manage risks associated with AI systems, including maintaining risk treatment plans and assessment records.
  • Drive and manage formal AI approval processes, working with stakeholders to ensure AI systems are reviewed, governed, and approved in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.
  • Streamline and automate AI governance workflows by leveraging process automation and collaborating with technology teams to integrate governance controls into existing systems.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and controls testing of AI systems, partnering with audit and risk teams to identify weaknesses and ensure effective oversight.
  • Engage and collaborate with data, technology, and business stakeholders to embed AI governance practices, including delivering training and guidance across regional teams.
  • Contribute to group-wide AI strategy, metrics, and reporting, tracking progress of AI initiatives and staying informed on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in AI governance.
Job Requirements

Must-haves:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in AI governance, data ethics, compliance, risk, or related disciplines, including at least 5 years in a leadership role within a multinational environment.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing AI governance frameworks or comparable enterprise compliance programs in complex, global organisations.
  • Strong understanding of AI technologies, machine learning concepts, and their ethical, societal, and operational implications.
  • Proven knowledge of global data privacy regulations, AI-related regulatory frameworks, and ethical guidelines across multiple regions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical capability with hands-on experience in risk assessment, mitigation, and controls design.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Exposure to regulatory environments across Asia, Africa, or other emerging markets.
  • Familiarity with data science, model risk management, or AI lifecycle management practices.
  • Experience participating in industry forums, working groups, or external collaborations related to AI governance or responsible AI.
Education
