The Asia Pacific Division has an opening for an Accounting Associate to be based in the Melbourne office.

The Accounting Associate will prepare, process, and analyze accounting and/or financial transaction information to support ongoing Accounting, Treasury or other Finance tasks and projects, with limited supervision from more senior accounting personnel and/or management. The incumbent typically handles routine processes, reports and information within their specific function.

The incumbent will be responsible for Australia and New Zealand payments; and is also a back-up within the team in handling other Asia countries (China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore).

Key Responsibilities
  • prepares, tracks and processes routine accounts payable (AP) transactions accurately and in a timely manner following established procedures and guidelines within a specific area of technical expertise (e.g. payables, reporting, cash management, etc.);
  • analyzes and reconciles source information/documentation in financial systems on a regular basis;
  • handles (follow up and resolves) issues and discrepancies pertaining to employees’ reimbursement, vendors, external auditors and cost centre owners;
  • conducts monthly & quarterly audits, half annual reporting and annual checks & balances, to ensure that the operation is in compliance and meets regulatory and tax requirements;
  • performs effective and timely validation of own work to ensure quality work with minimum errors;
  • participates in special projects to provide routine accounting support within a specific area of expertise;
  • performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Finance related Diploma or equivalent;
  • at least 5 years of AP experience;
  • familiarity with general accounting principles and practices; and thorough understanding of technical operations and accounting techniques within the team’s area of expertise (e.g. payables, reporting, cash management, etc.) usually acquired through 5+ years of experience in that area of expertise;
  • knowledge on GST rules in Australia and New Zealand will be preferred;
  • proficiency with financial systems and standard software applications (PeopleSoft; Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word);
  • attention to detail and focus on tasks at hand;
  • good analytical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • good communication and customer service skills;
  • ability to work in a routine, deadline-driven environment;
  • ability to work independently with minimal supervision and good time management.
