Key Responsibilities
- Review and coordinate road engineering activities across assigned project areas and construction packages.
- Examine IFC drawings, roadway layouts, profiles, cross-sections, specifications, calculations, and design documentation.
- Provide engineering support for access roads, service roads, internal roads, airport roads, and associated transportation infrastructure.
- Support delivery of airside and landside road systems where works interface with airport operations.
- Review horizontal and vertical alignments, gradients, cross-falls, levels, profiles, and geometric requirements.
- Evaluate pavement designs, pavement structures, material specifications, layer thicknesses, and construction criteria.
- Coordinate road design interfaces with drainage, utilities, structures, lighting, signage, landscaping, and other infrastructure systems.
- Review surface drainage requirements including gullies, channels, catch basins, and stormwater connections.
- Coordinate with Survey teams to verify road setting-out, alignments, levels, grades, and construction profiles.
- Review contractor shop drawings, technical submissions, Method Statements, and material documentation.
- Assess proposed road construction materials including subgrade, sub-base, base course, asphalt, concrete, kerbs, and paving products.
- Monitor earthworks, grading, formation preparation, compaction, subgrade treatment, and pavement construction.
- Inspect sub-base and base-course placement for compliance with approved thicknesses, levels, density, and material requirements.
- Monitor asphalt paving operations from production and transport through laying, compaction, temperature control, and finished quality.
- Verify rigid pavement and concrete pavement works where included in the project scope.
- Conduct site inspections and compare completed work against approved drawings and specifications.
- Monitor formation levels and dimensional tolerances before subsequent pavement layers are installed.
- Review soil classification, CBR, field density, compaction, and related geotechnical test results.
- Evaluate aggregate test results and pavement material compliance documentation.
- Review asphalt mix designs and associated laboratory and field performance testing.
- Coordinate roadwork inspections and testing requirements with Quality teams.
- Witness field density, compaction, asphalt, concrete, and pavement tests where required.
- Review Inspection and Test Plans and ensure defined hold points and witness points are followed.
- Identify construction defects, material deficiencies, poor workmanship, and conditions that could compromise pavement performance.
- Support investigation and closure of road-related NCRs.
- Review RFIs, Technical Queries, site engineering issues, and proposed corrective measures.
- Assess technical alternatives, design changes, and proposed deviations from approved requirements.
- Coordinate with Geotechnical Engineers regarding unsuitable soils, settlement, ground improvement, and subgrade performance.
- Work with Utility Engineers to resolve conflicts involving underground services, crossings, chambers, and roadway construction.
- Coordinate with Survey Engineers to verify road levels, cross-sections, alignments, and as-built conditions.
- Work with Traffic Engineers on road geometry, circulation, access, markings, signage, and safety requirements.
- Support temporary traffic management and construction access arrangements where they affect roadway delivery.
- Review kerbs, barriers, bollards, road signs, pavement markings, and associated roadside infrastructure.
- Coordinate interfaces between roadworks and airfield infrastructure including runways, taxiways, aprons, service routes, and operational areas where applicable.
- Monitor construction progress and identify technical issues that may affect planned milestones.
- Participate in technical coordination meetings with contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical observations, inspection records, and progress updates.
- Review as-built drawings, test certificates, material records, survey data, and handover documentation.
- Support final inspections, completion verification, and acceptance of roadway infrastructure.
- Verify compliance with applicable AASHTO, ASTM, BS, EN, Saudi Building Code, MOT, Municipality, airport, and project-specific requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, inspectors, and site personnel.
- Support constructability reviews, value engineering, and road engineering lessons learned.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in roads, highways, pavements, or infrastructure engineering.
- Proven experience on major airport, infrastructure, highway, road, or large-scale development projects.
- Strong technical understanding of road construction, pavement systems, earthworks, grading, drainage, and roadway materials.
- Experience in construction supervision, site inspection, technical review, and contractor coordination.
- Airport or airfield road and pavement experience is highly preferred.
- Good knowledge of flexible and rigid pavement systems.
- Ability to interpret road profiles, cross-sections, alignments, specifications, and technical calculations.
- Professional Engineering certification is preferred.
- Pavement or Highway Engineering certification would be advantageous.
- AASHTO, ASTM, or pavement materials training would add value.
- PMP or equivalent project management training is beneficial.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D certification or technical training is preferred.
- Relevant HSE certification would strengthen the candidate profile.
- Strong engineering judgment when assessing construction deficiencies and technical alternatives.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with surveyors, geotechnical engineers, utility specialists, traffic engineers, contractors, and consultants.
- Strong attention to material quality, dimensional accuracy, testing results, and construction tolerances.
- Good technical reporting and documentation capability.
- Ability to manage several site and engineering priorities under demanding construction schedules.
