Your primary role is to perform underground power cable installations and repairs including fault location, cable location, testing, maintenance, and commissioning for power cables rated 2.4KV-115KV in the field. You will also provide directions to junior underground power cable unit personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and perform high potential cable testing to 230 KV, perform megger tests to determine faulted phases and assist phasing of energized conductors to 35 KV. Install, repair and maintain all HV transmission/distribution cables (solid dielectric, PILCA, LPOF, submarine) and conduct required testing to meet standards.
  • Locate cable or equipment faults and operating irregularities by making the necessary diagnostical tests, measurements, analysis and determine nature of repairs or modifications to be made, and replacement parts required.
  • Track discrepancies, maintain a technical library, and continuously audit equipment—recording cable routes, IDs, specs, conditions, test results, past failures and needed fixes.

  • Locate cable faults by tracing and marking routes, testing both ends, identifying splices/disturbances, using thumping and high‑voltage burn‑set to clear high‑resistance faults, pinpointing the exact fault, repairing it, checking oil pressure, sealing LPOF leaks and refilling oil.
  • Train subordinate technicians in diagnostics, troubleshooting, test, repair, and maintenance procedures/methods.
  • Use various testing equipment like Insulation resistance, Partial discharge, Very Low Frequency, Tan delta power factor, Time Domain Reflector, Hi Protentional AC/DC.
  • Install and maintain high voltage cables (e.g., solid dielectric, paper insulated lead covered (PILCA) cables, low pressure oil filled (LPOF) cables, and submarine cables and testing of high-pressure oil filled (HPOF) cables) and performs splicing, terminations, and testing.
  • Supervise cable excavation, ensure de-energization and safety grounding, and oversee cable laying for high and medium voltage cables.
  • Perform commissioning tests on new cable.
