Job description

Key Responsibilities

Perform installations or diagnosis and repair on all types of electrical systems and support commissioning, fault diagnosis, testing, repairing, preventive maintenance, and routine maintenance on transformers, large circuit breakers and ancillary equipment for substations, switching stations, power plants, large motor controls, and underground power cable including fault locating. Frequently provide work direction to lower-classified Power Services Unit personnel. Perform preventive maintenance, installation, commissioning, testing, repairs, and troubleshooting on equipment including 480 V to 230 kV switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, disconnect switches, reclosers, cooling fans, and substation systems. Use various testing equipment such as transformer turns ratio, insulation resistance, and dielectric testers. Install and maintain high-voltage cables (e.g., solid dielectric, paper-insulated lead-covered PILCA cables, low-pressure oil-filled LPOF cables, and submarine cables) and test high-pressure oil-filled HPOF cables, performing splicing, terminations, and testing. Repair electrical and mechanical components of oil circuit breakers, including compressors, pumps, springs, and linkages. Perform commissioning tests on new equipment, recommend final acceptance by the Power Distribution Department, and list any exception items. Perform high-skilled diagnostic tasks: diagnose and locate equipment, system, and cable faults through tests and analysis to determine necessary repairs and parts. Install, repair, and maintain specialized power distribution equipment, including line wash equipment, lifts, amp, and digger-derrick. Supervise cable excavation, ensure de-energization and safety grounding, and oversee cable laying for high and medium voltage cables. Perform high-potential testing on power cables. Revise existing equipment and systems to conform to verbal instructions, revised drawings, and work orders, and make operational test runs for satisfactory repair and acceptance. Coordinate and schedule power outages with affected organizations as required to perform routine maintenance or make repairs on power distribution facilities. Acquire clearances, perform switching, receive work permits, and restore equipment to service when such activities are required to perform work in a timely manner.
