Job summary

Air Products is seeking a Grid Code Compliance leadership role in Saudi Arabia. The incumbent will own the compliance strategy, coordinate with regulators and transmission operators, and drive both dynamic and static grid studies with validated models.

The position requires close collaboration with OEMs and contractor teams to ensure timely approvals and energization. The role also emphasizes risk management, reporting, and hands-on support during commissioning and start-up, ensuring grid

  • Experience with dynamic/static grid studies and model validation.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Grid Code Compliance Strategy and maintain the compliance roadmap.
  • Ensure compliance with Saudi Arabian Grid Code, TRCG, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead dynamic studies (DMAT, voltage/frequency stability) and static studies.
  • Coordinate OEM/contractor activities and validate models (PSS/E/PSCAD/DIgSILENT/RTDS).
  • Lead RTDS and hardware-in-the-loop testing; ensure model consistency.
  • Provide risk reporting, action trackers, and escalation of issues.
  • Support energization, commissioning, and start-up readiness from a compliance view.
  • Collaborate with site teams and regulators to close comments and approvals.

2.1 Grid Code Compliance Leadership
  • Own the overall Grid Code Compliance Strategy and maintain the compliance roadmap.
  • Ensure compliance with Saudi Arabian Grid Code, TRCG requirements, utility connection agreements, and applicable transmission regulations.
  • Establish compliance milestones and monitor execution against schedule.
  • Provide clear reporting on compliance status, risks, decisions required, and approval progress.
2.2 Utility and Regulatory Interface
  • Act as the primary technical focal point with SEC / Saudi Electricity, transmission operators, regulators, and independent reviewers.
  • Lead technical workshops, compliance reviews, approval meetings, and comment close-out sessions.
  • Coordinate closure of regulator comments, technical queries, and submission cycles.
  • Manage approval of technical reports, study packages, and supporting documentation.
2.3 Grid Compliance Studies
  • Lead and coordinate dynamic studies, including DMAT, dynamic impact studies, model benchmarking, voltage stability, and frequency stability.
  • Lead and coordinate static studies, including load flow, short circuit, reactive power, transformer energization, and transmission line auto-reclosing studies.
  • Manage power quality activities including harmonic studies, filter design validation, and power quality assessments.
  • Coordinate grid interaction studies, including control interaction, small signal stability, SSCI, SSTI, and MIIF assessments.
2.4 OEM and Contractor Coordination
  • Coordinate technical activities across solar, wind, BESS, electrolyser, STATCOM, EPC, study consultant, and protection vendor teams.
  • Obtain and track validated PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, and RTDS models as required.
  • Monitor OEM issue resolution and ensure model updates align with compliance requirements.
  • Drive closure of technical issues impacting study completion, utility approval, energization, or full-load operation.
2.5 RTDS and Model Validation
  • Lead Real-Time Digital Simulation compliance activities and model benchmarking.
  • Coordinate hardware-in-the-loop and controller testing where required.
  • Ensure consistency between PSCAD models, PSS/E models, RTDS models, and site-installed systems.
  • Support Site Acceptance Testing and commissioning activities requiring validated models.
2.6 Controls and Protection Compliance
  • Ensure compliance of active power control, voltage control, Fast Generation Shedding, Fast Load Shedding, protection schemes, and plant controller functions.
  • Coordinate validation of grid-forming and grid-following controls through studies, testing, and field verification.
  • Confirm that control and protection logic supports stable grid operation and agreed utility requirements.
2.7 Risk Management
  • Identify and manage risks associated with grid connection approvals, study completion delays, harmonics, model readiness, OEM performance, protection coordination, and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish mitigation plans and elevate unresolved risks with clear impact statements.
  • Maintain a Grid Compliance Risk Register and action tracker.
2.8 Commissioning and Start-up Support
  • Support energization and commissioning strategy from a grid compliance perspective.
  • Review switching philosophies, operating procedures, and grid-code demonstration requirements.
  • Support first energization, first synchronization, performance testing, and operational demonstrations.
  • Participate in start-up readiness reviews and operational handover activities.
