Role Context

The Design Manager will operate within the Planning and Design Management stream, supporting senior leadership in the controlled delivery of multidisciplinary infrastructure design across assigned projects, packages, and asset scopes. The role will connect design consultants, technical disciplines, project teams, stakeholders, and delivery functions so information moves through review and approval processes without losing coordination, quality, or schedule alignment. Strong design governance will be essential to identifying clashes, technical gaps, dependencies, and approval risks before they affect downstream procurement or construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design delivery across assigned infrastructure projects and packages.
  • Support senior management and the Senior Design Manager with day-to-day design coordination and assurance activities.
  • Coordinate design consultants and internal technical teams throughout project development.
  • Review design submissions for completeness, quality, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Verify alignment of design outputs with approved briefs, technical standards, budgets, and delivery programs.
  • Monitor consultant performance against agreed design milestones and submission dates.
  • Coordinate design progress through applicable stage-gate and approval processes.
  • Identify design gaps, inconsistencies, and missing information before submissions proceed for approval.
  • Support resolution of multidisciplinary design clashes and technical coordination issues.
  • Coordinate responses to design-related Technical Queries and clarification requests.
  • Work with consultants and project teams to resolve constructability issues identified during design development.
  • Coordinate interfaces between Civil, Structural, Architectural, MEP, Utilities, Mobility, Landscape, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Ensure technical interfaces between infrastructure systems and asset packages are clearly identified and managed.
  • Maintain visibility of dependencies between consultants, disciplines, stakeholders, and delivery teams.
  • Support integration of design requirements across multiple assets and infrastructure packages.
  • Maintain design trackers, action logs, registers, comment schedules, and approval workflows.
  • Keep accurate technical records to support project governance and auditability.
  • Apply standardized design management templates, methodologies, and reporting procedures.
  • Monitor design status against approved schedules and planned deliverables.
  • Coordinate design review periods and ensure comments are issued within required timelines.
  • Track consultant responses to review comments through closure.
  • Maintain clear records of technical decisions, approvals, outstanding actions, and unresolved issues.
  • Identify design-related risks, assumptions, constraints, and dependencies.
  • Support development and implementation of mitigation actions for emerging design risks.
  • Escalate unresolved technical or schedule concerns to senior design leadership when appropriate.
  • Liaise with Planning and Project Controls teams where design progress may affect project milestones.
  • Support timely decision-making by ensuring relevant technical information is available to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate internal reviews with engineering, delivery, construction, and support functions.
  • Facilitate design coordination meetings, technical workshops, and progress reviews.
  • Prepare design status information for weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Support management of approval workflows for consultant and technical submissions.
  • Ensure design revisions are clearly communicated to all affected disciplines and project teams.
  • Coordinate changes arising from design reviews, stakeholder comments, or technical requirements.
  • Monitor whether approved changes have been incorporated into subsequent design deliverables.
  • Support constructability reviews and coordination with delivery teams before construction release.
  • Promote consistency in design management practices across assigned projects.
  • Ensure current design information is distributed accurately and in a controlled manner.
  • Maintain effective communication between consultants, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Support senior design leadership with technical reporting, coordination priorities, and design assurance recommendations.
Ideal Profile

The position requires a bachelor 's degree in Engineering or another relevant technical discipline. Candidates should have at least 10 years of professional experience in design coordination, design management, engineering management, or multidisciplinary project delivery. The successful candidate should have experience working with multidisciplinary design consultants and coordinating outputs across several technical disciplines. A good understanding of design development stages, technical review requirements, approval processes, and stage-gate governance is essential. Candidates should be able to assess design submissions for coordination, completeness, technical consistency, and compliance with project requirements. Experience managing design trackers, review comments, approval workflows, technical actions, risks, and dependencies will be valuable.
