Job summary

raafa is seeking a Relief Carer to join our compassionate team at Karri & Tuart Lodge and Vivian Bullwinkel Lodge in Merriwa, WA. This permanent part-time relief pool vacancy offers flexible shifts supporting residents with dignity and quality care.

As a Relief Carer you will provide direct care, support daily activities, assist with communication, and help maintain a safe, homely environment across both facilities.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Ageing Support or Certificate IV in Ageing Support with relevant work experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work across both Merriwa facilities.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for providing direct care, support and personal assistance to residents.
• Encourage activities program for residents.
• Assist residents to communicate to ensure rights, interests and needs are met.
• Respond to residents' requests for personal care and other assistance.
• Maintain resident records and information, in line with policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe homelike environment for the resident.
• Encourage and promote the independence and freedom of choice of residents.

This is a Carer Relief Pool Vacancy, and successful applicants will join our relief team for placement opportunities as they arise over the coming months. Relief Carers provide flexible coverage across both Merriwa residential care centres, stepping into rostered or short-notice shifts to support operational requirements and ensure continuity of care for our residents.

The Role And You

As a Relief Carer, you will provide coverage across Karri & Tuart Lodge and Vivian Bullwinkel Lodge, stepping into planned and unplanned shifts based on operational needs.

You Will

• Be responsible for providing direct care, support and assistance to residents;
• Encourage and promote the activities program for residents;
• Assist residents to communicate to ensure that the rights, interests and needs of resident’s are met;
• Respond to resident’s requests for personal care and other assistance;
• Maintain resident records and information, utilising relevant systems and in line with specified policies and procedures;
• Maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe homelike environment for the resident;
• Encourage and promote the independence and freedom of choice of residents.
• Build meaningful relationships with residents, families and colleagues;
• Be adaptable and available to work across both Merriwa residential care centres as required.

This Carer Relief Pool role supports our residential care communities located across two northern metropolitan estates:

• Karri & Tuart Lodge, located within Merriwa Estate, is a refurbished 110‑bed Residential Care Centre providing permanent, respite and secure dementia care in a welcoming and contemporary environment.
• Vivian Bullwinkel Lodge, located within Cambrai Village Estate, is a 79‑bed Residential Care Centre offering quality aged care services in a warm community setting with beautiful parkland surroundings.

As a member of our Carer Relief Pool, you will have the opportunity to work across both facilities, providing flexible support to residents and care teams while gaining exposure to different environments and experiences. Relief Carers play an essential role in ensuring continuity of care by assisting with planned leave, vacancies and short‑notice staffing requirements.

To Be Successful, You Will Have

• A Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or Certificate IV in Ageing Support with relevant work experience;
• Previous experience in residential aged care;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Flexibility to work across both Merriwa residential care facilities;
• Eligibility to work in Australia;
• A satisfactory National Police Certificate (within six months of issue at commencement) or willingness to obtain one;
• Current flu vaccination or willingness to obtain one;
• An updated resume.
